Owned and installed by South African owned Aerial Displays in collaboration with branding partner Graffiti, the Absa football balloons are aimed at highlighting Absa's commitment to soccer in South Africa with specific focus on its sponsorship of the Premier Soccer League. The Maponya Mall balloon in particular is aimed at providing inspiration to ambitious grass root soccer players within the township, especially in the run-up to the FIFA Confederations Cup later this year and the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.
The 1520 square metre giant footballs will also become spectacular landmarks at night, when they will become internally illuminated by three generator-powered, halide-type bulbs housed within the respective helium chambers. The Absa balloon at Montecasino is the second installation for the brand thus far with the original red and white ABSA-branded balloon having been in operation as a very successful tourist attraction at the casino for over three-and-a-half years. With viewing rides taking place both during the day and at night, thus far over 50 000 Montecasino guests have been able to take in the spectacular views of the city and surrounds from a breathtaking 120 metres above the ground. And now those visitors to Maponya Mall shall be able to undergo the same awe-inspiring experience.
