Graffiti & McDonald's make World Cup dreams come true

Whilst thousands of South Africans were enjoying the excitement and fanfare of hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup, for twelve-year old AIDS orphan David, being a part of the tournament and attending a game at such an awe-inspiring event was nothing more than a pipe dream. On hearing of this talented young footballer's plight and birthday wish through Talk Radio 702's Birthday Wish promotion, vehicle branding specialists, Graffiti and McDonald's™ decided to make this dream a reality.

McDonald's™ SA immediately sprang into action by providing the bright young star with two tickets to the World Cup Final and, to ensure that David had absolutely everything he needed in order to enjoy the game, Graffiti came on board and supplied a vehicle and driver to transport David and his sister Tshidi to the game and back to their home town of Letabeng outside Brits. Graffiti also provided David with a goodie bag filled with World Cup Soccer paraphernalia including a warm soccer jacket, beanie and scarf, a Jabulani soccer ball, sunglasses and R200 spending money. Of course, no soccer fan could attend a 2010 World Cup game without the prerequisite Vuvuzela!

Graffiti Managing Director, John Rice explains Graffiti's involvement in this heart-warming project, "Graffiti has been privileged to enjoy a wonderful working relationship with McDonald's™ over the last few years and most recently we had branded 45 vehicles for them for their 2010 World Cup campaign. When they informed us of their generous birthday gift for David, we felt it was the least we could do to partner with them on this wonderful initiative and provide a transport solution in order to make David's Birthday wish come true."

On the afternoon of the World Cup Final, David and Tshidi were collected from their home in a chauffeur-driven McDonald's™ branded Mini Cab amidst a rousing send-off by their local community. They were taken to a McDonald's™ restaurant to enjoy their first ever McDonald's™ meal before being transported to the game at Soccer City. Following the match, Graffiti's Mini Cab returned the two safely to their home. When asked about their experience the two were visibly elated and Tshidi remarked that it had been the best day of their lives.

"It was particularly humbling for us to be involved in this uplifting experience and all those involved in the project gained so much more from this encounter than we could ever have anticipated," ends Rice.
