Graffiti makes its mark on Gautrain
Their branding creations have adorned hundreds of vehicles around South Africa's roads, now vehicle branding specialists Graffiti, are about to make their mark on an altogether different transport medium. The mobile branding specialists are currently responsible for the production and installation of all the interior warning and information decals, as well as the exterior branding aboard the country's most exciting transportation project, the Gautrain.

Having been awarded the contract in January 2009, Graffiti was tasked with the production of every single safety and information decal that will adorn the interior of the 96 Gautrain carriages. Also forming part of this mammoth task is the supply of all the exterior “Gautrain” branding as well as the anti-graffiti film to protect against graffiti and scratching on the windows in the carriages.
Having to adhere to strict international regulations, Graffiti has worked closely with world leaders in the aerospace and rail transportation sectors, Bombardier, to ensure that the appropriate colour and quality standards were achieved throughout. Bombardier has completed eight “private rail” projects throughout the world which include, amongst others, the London Underground. |

Comments Bombardier UK's Dan Hope, Service Introduction Manager for Gautrain, “The colours and materials used on these specific decals on the Gautrain had to comply with our international standards. We provided Graffiti with the drawings, specialised colours and the material requirements and they had to create each and every decal to our exact specifications. The signs on the Gautrain are the same quality you'll find on the London Underground or any other world class rail system.”
Tasked with the management of this prestigious project, Graffiti Sales Director, Gavin Schlaphoff says, “The Gautrain installation is a once-a-lifetime opportunity and we were delighted to be selected to supply the decals and branding for the carriages. With such exacting colour and material specifications we had to pull out all the stops to ensure the job is 100 percent up to standard. This meant having to import the specialised 3M materials from Europe and constantly liaising with Bombardier in the UK on every step in the process to make sure we had things exactly right.”
Graffiti has completed the installation of the first 20 carriages during which time they have also trained the staff at Union Carriage and Wagons to be able to complete the remaining 76 coaches. Completion of the project is estimated for March 2010.
Ends Schlaphoff, “It's going to be a fantastic moment when the final completed product is up and running and we know that we played a small role in this historic project.”
